Shin Tokyo
Today I went to Shin Tokyo at Yew Tee point. At first I thought of eating subway, then my taste buds wanted sushi instead, so i went to Shin Tokyo for sushi. As I enter the restaurant, I was shock. The seats were empty; apparently they do not have any customers for that period of time. I was greeted with the best smiling waitress and was brought to my seat. As I sat down, the feeling of being the only customer in Shin Tokyo sets in. Everyone’s eyes were on me because I was the only customer there.
Then came another waiter. He asked me what I would like to drink even before I opened the menu to look at the drinks they serve. I said “mineral water please”. He replied that Shin Tokyo do no serve plain water. In my heart I was like WHAT THE …. ! I asked for MINERAL WATER NOT PLAIN WATER! And I thought ok maybe he didn’t hear me properly. So I ordered a glass of coke, which cost $2.90. I think that at this price it was not worth buying that coke. This is because they serve the coke in a not so tall glass, which is full of ice, and the coke was about the amount of the small can. For a small can I could get it at $1.50 at most in a convenient store and at Shin Tokyo it was $1.40 more than it should cost. When my drink came, I flip to the drinks menu and to my surprise THEY DO SERVE MINERAL WATER and it was only at $1!!! I felt cheated when it comes to the drinks. I think if you want to eat at Shin Tokyo please flip through the menu before making any orders! I guess it was my mistake for ordering too fast without looking at the menu.
For the main course I ordered the Teriyaki Beef Baked Rice, which was $9.90. I think that the baked rice was ok and the beef was just nice but I seem to have a problem with the rice with the teriyaki sauce. The taste was rather mellow and not so powerful as I thought and expected it to be. I had to add a little bit of that very sweet soy sauce for taste. Other than the rice the beef and cheese topping were awesome! I like the presentation of the rice because it had bright color’s to it with the bright and fresh looking broccoli and very bright orange carrot cubes sprinkled on top as garnish with a sea of yellow cheese base. For $9.90 I think it’s a value for money because you get good presentation of food, perfectly cooked beef and very nice cheese.
I had to try their $0.99 sushi plate. Apparently they serve the sushi on different color plates to differentiate the price. As I sat next to the conveyer belt I only saw white plates that were $0.99 and a few black plates which were about $4.00++ (I think) and there were no red plates. Apparently you would have to order the sushi’s that were not on the conveyer belt. Nonetheless I took three types of sushi’s on a white plate and I didn’t take the black plates because they weren’t that enticing. I took this colorful sushi that looked like a glass window in a church where they have colored patterns on the window. This sushi was very colorful and had a beautiful design that I had to eat it. The other two plates were a Salmon Roe sushi and some weird maroon colored sushi that I had to try. The sushi were awesome and had a very reasonably price.
Over all I think that Shin Tokyo was a good place to have Japanese food. I forgot to mention that they have a few dinning promotion which I didn’t ordered because I was eating alone. The promotion were more for groups, families and couples. For a total of $18.55 I wouldn’t mind eating there again. The place is clean and the people there are friendly. The food is great and had good presentation.
